Free Friday Foreign Films
Independent films have always drawn critical acclaim for their artistic nature and simple portrayal of the human spirit, but it has only been in the past few years that mainstream audiences have taken notice of these sometimes quirky and oftentimes beautiful films. With many of these films now catching the attention of the Golden Globes and Academy Awards, we are so grateful and excited that the Friends of the Guntersville Public Library have offered to sponsor this program so that the library can bring the community current and highly rated Indie films. Films begin at 7 PM in the library auditorium and light refreshments are provided.
May 25: A Ghost Story
“Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife, only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. A singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection…an unforgettable meditation on love and grief.” –Rotten Tomatoes
July 27: The Florida Project
“The Florida Project tells the story of a precocious six year-old and her ragtag group of friends whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder, possibility and a sense of adventure while the adults around them struggle with hard times.” – Rotten Tomatoes
“Destined to be remembered as one of the great films about childhood” – Donald Clarke, The Irish Times
